I had a problem like that on my '90 RR. Well I had two problems like
that. The first was the ignition amplifier. In stop and go traffic
the thing would heat up. The air flow at speed, i.e the fan turning
at a high rate, or air flowing over the module while the truck was
rolling was enough to make the amp NOT fail. As soon as I got into
stop and go traffic with long periods of idling the truck would stall.
When I went out an lifted the hood, it was just long enough to allow it to cool off and the truck would start. This puzzled me for a month
until I found it.
The next fix at a later date was replacing the stepper motor (part from NAPA auto) and cleaning everything fixed it the second time.
