Jeeves ('90RR) and I are sorry to hear about the roll. Especially on a GDE. You know that with it being a limited edition that it deserves the best restoration you can give it. This past summer while on my off-road extravaganza, I happened to be in Moab UT for 4 days. While there I noticed a Rangie parked by this mobile home. Upon closer exam it was an '88 that had been in an accident. I think the insurance totaled it, but it was mechanically sound. Anyway, the body panels had some ripples in them and the interior was trashed, probably scavenged for parts. The current owner bought it for around $2-4000 and now it is a dedicated Moab off-roader. If you have good insurance, I'd get them to fix it, bringing it back to as close to original as possible; it would be a shame to have one less GDE in the world. However, if it is bad enough to be totaled, I would get them to total it, and then buy it back from them for a few thousand and make it a dedicated off-roader. I have thought that if Jeeves were ever trashed, that is what I'd do. On the subject of fixing it however, The Rovers North Bulletin Board had a couple posts a few weeks ago about a roof skin and hood for sale. I strongly suggest you check them out. The address for RN is "http://www.roversnorth.com". If you are going to fix it yourself, without bringing insurance into the bargain, try British Parts International at (800) 231 6563 x560(Daryl). They are a salvage yard in Dallas I think. I haven't ordered from them but have talked with them and it sounds like they have a number of wrecked Rangies. Don't get too depressed about it. It is just a vehicle after all (although I think it is the best vehicle in the world). I did some damage to Jeeves on the Rubicon this summer and am slowly fixing it. The weather here (ND) has gotten a bit cold for good body work (no heated garage), so the rear lower corners will probably wait 'till the spring. It would be cool if you could say that you rolled it doing something that was right out of the Camel Trophy, or some other incredible bit of 4-wheeling (you can't say that can you?). If you can, we all want to hear about it. Regardless, you have one of a set of very unique vehicles and it (and you and the Land Rover family world-wide) deserves to be brought back to its original glory. Well, I don't know if that helped at all, but just remember you're not alone in this. Cheers; Greg Haugen |
