Jim Skelton- your query re Landrover serial numbers. I've referred to James Taylors book "LandRover 1948-1983"(good one available from Amazon.com) . The 34300001A > series of serials belonged to 109" six cylinder Station Wagons LHD for export to the North American Dollar Area only. They were introduced in 1967 and were fitted with a Weslake tuned cylinder head in an effort to extract performance levels which would appeal to American buyers. Unfortunately the peak torque shifted from 1500rpm to 3000rpm and it was such a pig off-road that it was dropped after only a year. Your machine would therefore be a 1967/68, most likely an early one given the lowish serial number. Does it have a single wiper motor at left of dash driving two wipers thru a cable? Thats a dead giveaway to a '67 and later IIA. In addition, the 109" six cylinder chassis differs from the 109" four in position of crossmember at rear of gearbox, shape of firewall behind motor(bigger bulge) and position of engine mount brackets. Compare your six with a four and you'll see. I have a 109" Series III with the Rover 2.6L six which is identical in chassis to my six cylinder IIA rebuild project. Its getting a six cylinder Australian motor of 3.3L which appeared in the products of General Motors-Holden, the Aussie arm of GM. Cheers, Peter.
