Acknowledging 50,000 mile cat change

Posted by dave on December 17, 2007 at 15:11:14:

On a D90 there is somewhere on the ECU or the fault code display unit or elsewhere a hole to push-in a pin to tell the ECU the cats have been changed. I know because my learned friends on this forum some years ago were discussing this topic, but I cannot find the message using the LRX search. Now my D90 has gone past 100,000 miles the red (service engine?) light has lit-up and without a fault code showing I am pretty sure it thinks it needs more cats!
However, in the meantime the vehicle has been gassed and the cats thrown away and the R380 exchanged for a nice auto box. The ECU has been chipped and resistors added to tell the ECU that a) cats are not fitted (which changes the fuelling) and b) it is now an auto. But I guess the ECU is programmed to check every 50,000 that the cats have been changed?
Can someone confirm what and how you tell the ECU that the cats are changed? and I will make a note this time for the 150,000 mile cat change! and joy to get that red lamp extinguished.
