3rd row seats on New Disco Series II (forward vs sideways argument)

Hi Craig,

I guess you know by now that the new Discovery Series II
will only offer forward facing third row seats. The reason
for that is safety - if you were sitting in the Series I
Disco sideways in the third row and the vehicle experiences
a severe head-on or rear-ender, you would be injured more
than if you were in a forward facing seat. I think there
was some legal maneouvering in the states which mandated the
design change to forward facing seats, hence a bigger rear
passenger cell, with resulting longer rear overhang. This
will affect the Disco in off road use as I imagine the
departure angles would not be as good as the model it replaces.
But perhaps the air suspension and superior 4WD technology
will compensate for that (hopefully).

Cheers,

Lawrance
