Trouble removing the Crankshaft Pulley.

Posted by Taz-Man on October 14, 2007 at 10:55:23:

Hello - 1st time owner of a 2000 LR Discovery Series 2. Great Car. Bought used, dealer maintained.

Problem....recently smell of antifreeze was noticeale after short/long drive outside the car. no water on ground. Now water is leaking like crazy. I dis-assembled the the front location and found the leak has been there for some time due to the corrosion.
At first glane I thought the water pump seal went but as inspected it more I found that the timing-chain Cover located directly behind the water pump was the issue. I have all the parts, and i plan to replace the timing chain to since my vehicle is at 115,000 miles.

My main issue is the Crankshaft Pulley. I dont have a problem keeping stationary to remove the BOlt So i may romve the crank/timing cover - the issue is the direction. On a previous car (european make) the bolt holding the pulley had to be removed in the direction you would tighten a bold. Is this the same Issue here? Does the bolt come off in the direction you would NORMALLY screw a bolt back on. Thanks. Emails are welcomed! thank you!
