Series IIa SWB diesel - clutch fork broken

Posted by Alastair on December 22, 2006 at 03:45:59:

My '68 IIA SWB 2.25 diesel has no clutch. The mechanic has replaced and tested the slave and master cylinder, and adjusted the mechanism, but still the car has no clutch and remains barely driveable.

He believes the next step is to remove the gearbox and inspect the clutch fork, which may be broken or bent and thus not pulling/pushing the clutch plate enough distance for it to work.

This is sounding very expensive for an old truck...I'm inclined to just get rid of the car. Any thoughts on what might be the problem, how much it might cost, if it's a simple or complicated job?

regards,
Alastair
