Axle Gaitor

Posted by Skip Morehouse on December 13, 2006 at 07:46:28:

Im planning on replacing the front axle gaitor (CV boot on the front axle) on my 2001 Discovery II. I purchased the part and grease (Land Rover OEM parts). I was inspecting the new "clamps" and found the small clamp to be typical in that is has preset forms and slots to tighten and catch for the proper fit. The question comes regarding the large clamp provided. It looks to be a strap with a type of loop on one end. There are no real features to catch or retain the strap...which leads me to believe that the strap is tightened then crimped to retain its fit. Is this true and is a special tool required for this? Can it be done without a special tool? If not (or not recommended) where can one find the tool for this install?

Any assistance is appreciated
