Engine struggle after engine wash - '95 RR Classic

Posted by Fay on July 26, 2006 at 17:47:56:

My '95 RR Classic had the usual oil leaks so I decided to get the engine washed from top to bottom at a local car wash. As soon as it was done I headed for home, less than a half a mile or so whenever I stopped at a traffic light or in traffic and held the brake the engine started to struggle as if it wanted to shut off. The problem just got worse and suddenly my check engine light came on. I immediately pulled over, shut off the engine and left it for approximately an hour or so. I suspect water may have gotten in where it should have not for example the distributor, ect. After an hour I restarted and drove off, the problem was not as bad and the car eventually began to run better and by the time I got home some 6 miles later it was running like a charm. However, my check engine light remains on - is there away to turn it off, or do I have to go to the dealer or an independent shop and do with their computer, or will it eventually go off after sensing all is well over time. Your responses would be greatly appreciated.
