I have been aware that stock replacement wiring harneses are available. If you are a purest and trying to restore a vehicle to show condition I accept using a stock replacement harness, but if you need a highly modified harness, making up a new harness from scratch, is not that hard. To do it cleanly takes some time and effort. I have seen an awful lot of wiring work that could best be described as a rat’s nest. I made up one of those in the process of learning how to it better. Spiral wrap and ty-wraps are wonderful things.

I found out today that one of the suppliers that I have used now has a web site. He is the best source of alternators I know of. Enos Custom Components http://www.enoscustom.com/ The business is aimed at the street rod market but wiring a vehicle is wiring a vehicle. They have a lot of parts convenient from one source.

Should you decide to use at GM 10 S1 alternator or even think about it I am not sure if a kit to mount it is available. I have seen one in which the alternator almost lined up on the pullies. Fifteen years ago I built five mounting kits. Two are on my vehicles, the others three I sold. One was installed on a truck here in San Luis Obispo by a shop that was concerned about the completeness of the kit based on previous conversion installations. They were impressed with how well it went together. I could not get any interest from any L-R parts houses and the web did not exist in 1990. If there is some demand I will consider making up some of these kits. Estimated price $100 to $150.

The kits are for a 2 1/4, 3 main civilian engine with single grove pulley. The kit consists of the alternator mounting bracket (a weldment), new tension arm, hardware, part number for the new belt that will be required and instructions for installation. I would consider posting the drawing and letting people build their own, but the drawing is a C size drawing, pencil on vellum, and the instructions were written on my Apple II+.
