| Coolant leak 2001 Discovery II SE Posted by Chris Humphreys on November 02, 2005 at 10:55:34: I have searched through all of the existing ads I can find about my issue, but couldn't quite get what I was looking for. So please forgive the redundancy... I am experiencing a coolant leak from somewhere between the engine block and the transmission. I have not yet taken it to a LR dealership because they ALWAYS find something very expensive and questionable to fix, even for oil changes. In the area around Dallas, Texas there are only three dealerships, and at least two are owned by the same conglomerate. I took it first to my local mechanic who didn't charge anything to try and find where the leak was coming from, but ultimately he said he couldn't handle it because he didn't have the right gear. He did confirm that he thinks it's leaking out of the bottom from somewhere between the engine block and tranny. So, I will likely have to take it to the dealership very soon. I have been able to keep the Disco from overheating by topping up every few days. It doesn't take much water to bring the level up, but I don't want to take any chances. I am experiencing the same swishy sound from behind the dashboard, and smell coolant from outside the vehicle. The smell isn't coming from the A/C vents though. Is this something I could repair myself or just go ahead and take it in? Thanks!
