I am pretty much in the same boat!. I have found out this much: There are two American automatic diff locks available: Lockrite and the Detroit Locker, both of which work on the concept of using differential traction to allow them to disengage the outer wheel as you are going around a corner. I have a Series IIA (68 -70?) model and this last weekend went to an outdoor/4x4 expo show in Johannesburg, where exhibitors told me that they are available for the older models (so I'm sure you are able to get one if you are in the states). I was, however, warned that these type of diff-locks allow extra play in the drive train (hell, what's a little more going to do?). There are other bonuses to the ARB system though: You can use the compressor that drives the pneumatic system on the ARB to pump up tyres after beach/sand driving.
