history/reliability - 1990 RR County v. 1993

Posted by scottjdfla on December 28, 1998 at 19:04:58:

Just took a test drive in a 1990 RR County with no rust (or corrosion if you prefer) excellent features, and what appears a reasonable price - - but what hidden caveats should I be emptoring. This vehicle has 117K, oversized tires and upgraded wheels, no eveidence of collision or oil problems. Would the '90 owners out there do it again, or is it wiser to spend 4-5k more for a '93.

Also I was told most of the body panels (except hood and rear gate) are alumimum and the 3.9 litre engine is a GM/buik design, is that true? Also as a former MGB owner from college days, I assume electrical is the weakness here. Would appreciate any useful comments before making a leap I'll regret (I also owned a 944 once!) as I really like the style and am willing to learn to make or pay for reasonable repairs.
