I purchased my 87 Range Rover about 4 months ago and if you have read any of my earlier posts you can see this is my first. When I got home (Independence, KS) with my Rover I ordered an oil filter from Atlantic British and had the oil changed with Castrol 10W-40 oil. It did not use any oil after 3000 miles and it was time to change it again. I found a local alternative to the oil filter ( Mobil 1 M1-301 ) and had the oil changed to 10W-30 because of colder weather. After about 2,000 miles I had to add a quart of oil. I am now going to change back to the 10W-40 Castrol. I would like to hear any opinions on brands and grades of oil. My Rover has about 130k miles on it. Also what type of gearbox lubricant is best to use in the swivel housings? There are no signs of leakage but I want to replace the oil in the swivel housings. Thanks in advance, David
