Does it happen only when first started with the engine cold? Does it happen when the motor is hot? Does it make the noise when the vehicle is not in motion? Or does it have to be moving? If it is a loud squealing that begins as soon as the engine is cranked, but gradually goes away, it is most likely a loose alternator belt.
