| Help !!!! Please answer MG and others. Posted by Jack Baker on December 30, 2004 at 20:32:33: I have a 98 Disco LSE with 90K miles and some problems are getting worse, what do you all think the problem is? Problems: 1.) Have had knocking sound from lower part of the engine for at least 6 months now. The sound has gotten louder and pro land rover mechanics (Bear valley & tntlr which advertise on this site) could not figure out the problem without major surgory. It is really bad when I start up in the mornings once engine has completly cooled (sounds like a deisel!) but is not as loud once engine warms up. Sound follows RPM's but seems to go away if no load is on the engine. (For example trans in park or neutral). 2.) Been battling problems with air in my coolent system. Found fan clutch was bad and replaced it and replaced coolent. All was good for a few days. All air was out but today had some air back and engine started to overheat. 3.) I think engine may have been overheated by past owner. I had to replace the radiator when I bought the rover 2 years ago. 4.) Just receieved codes P0300 & P1316. I'm not sure if the misfire is bacause I just recently added some oil detergent and techron to gas to try to clean up what I thought was some sticking tappets making sound for problem #1. I regularly push the engine hard at least once a week to keep carbon down. Any advise would be great. Also what the difference between long block and short block. If it's a long block does that just meen it includes the heads? Thanks
