leaky head gasket

Posted by scottm on December 27, 2004 at 19:38:56:

We have a 2000 Disc II with about 57000 miles on it. The "Servise Engine Soon" light came on the other day... so we took it to the Greensboro NC LR dealer. Turned out we needed breaks and a "head job". They quoted us $1400 for the breaks and $2500 to repair the leaky head gasket. I did the breaks for less than $600 (with upgrade) but need to find out more info on this gasket issue... and that why I'm here. Does anyone know of a good shop in the Triad area? I'd be willing to go to the Triagle if I had to... if it'll save me money and having to go back to the local dealer/stealer. Also what's the deal with this gasket issue at fairly low milage? is this common with Land Rovers? Any and all advice would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks
Scott
