Could not agree more with your summary, the Freelander is a true fashion wagon. They are selling well in South Africa but I see trouble looming when some of these dinky toys start to visit the remote areas in Southern Africa. No low range, not enough space for supplies and extra spares and spare wheels, not strong enough to tow a small trailer or to carry a decent roof rack. Then when they are in trouble their owners demand rescue from the cheap old (yes a Freelander cost nearly what a 110 CSW cost here) Land Rovers and other decent stuff. I see trouble !! Fortunately it seems that a movement has started at some of the conservation areas not to allow 4x4's without a low range box. By the way, the Camel Trophy has become a joke as far as the 4x4 side of it is concerned.
