" Gear Oil Draining From Fording Hole "

Posted by Eric on December 13, 1998 at 07:33:36:

Hello,
The other nite I replaced the gear oil in my 69 Ser.IIa, main
gearbox & transferbox. I,ve been restoring this vehicle for the last
three years, and it is a good possibility that I forgot to drain the
main case when I put it back in. My question is : If there was to much
gear oil in the main gearbox, could that cause the oil to drain from
the fording hole. There was approx. 1pt.or so on my garage floor the
next morning. When I drained the main gearbox, I notice a large amount of dirty gear oil flow first, then the new stuff. Or could this mean
replacing the input shaft seal. Your help is appreciated. eric.
