Dear, Freelander is not a true Land Rover. In my way it is a shame to name this car as Land Rover. It should be named BMW; by the way - this german firm makes excelent sport and luxury cars. This is a car good for winter roads and that's all - no off-road. There is no frame in Freelander, no low gears but there are independent susspension instead of axles, visco clutch instead of central diff, small low profile tires.... Freelander is full of electronic devices like ETC, ABS etc. It owns a magic yellow switch as well, really good for nothing. There are plenty of parts made of plastic easy to damage. Look under chassis. The susspension looks very lightly and the ground clearance is a problem. Camel Trophy '98 - "Tierra del Fuego" - was the lightest one during Camel Trophy history. Besides you can find pictures that show Freelander and Defender 110 following it and carrying Freelander team's boat, bicycle etc, good to rescue Freelander if necessary. So, the conclussion is: if you want to buy a toy - buy Freelander but if you want to have an extraordinary off-road machine look for one of true Land Rover. I tested Freelander so I could find what I have just written. Disappointed? Sorry. Regards, Tomasz Konik, Cracow, Poland
