About 1993, the Rover 300tdi was fitted and the current vehicles are available with a 2.5 litre 6 cylinder BMW turbo diesel. None of these was a raging sucess. The VN - especially the 2.4 - had head problems, the 300tdi was said to be too noisy and the 2.5 BMW is said to be too gutless low down. The Poms use the Nissan 2.8 litre 6 both naturally aspirated and as a turbo and also a 3.5 litre Mazda diesel as well as lots of others. The GM 6.5 litre V8 diesel also gets a look in. Adaptors are available for all of these in the UK. Try Frog Island Land Rover mob. They have kits including exhaust and all parts. It it were me, I'd recondition the V8 - it is basically a good engine and stroker kits can easily take it to 4.2 litres if you want. Here is Oz, I'd convert it to run on LPG (liquified petroleum gas - propane) which is quite cheap and very clean. Michael
