The Stage 1 V8 has two restricter plates in the top of the inlet manifold below the carbs. They are basically solid metal cylinders about 3cm high with 3 holes through them (about 9mm diameter. I had mine removed on my 1983 Stage 1 to increase power (it really makes a difference!). If anyone wants to remove them from their Stage 1 the procedure is:-

1. Remove Carbs from manifold.
2. Remove manifold from vehicle.
3. Drill and tap the centre of resticter plate.
4. Use stud extractor the pull out the plates.

alternatley just smack them with a cold chisel (I've heard this works!).

There are two mixer combs with the restricter plates. A common mistake I've heard is to remove these too....don't!

The Stage 1 engine is also a low compression unit (very similar to the FC101 unit). I don't know if the 110 V8 has the high(er) compression V8 like the Range Rover, but this may account for the higher engine power.
