transmission and transfer case

Posted by Shawn on July 13, 2004 at 17:16:52:

My 90 classic is soon to become my primary "family" vehicle as my wife is getting a company car. My concern is that I will have to rely on it for road trips and such. Since I bought the Rover it has been less than reliable but I am devoted to restoring it from its deglected (mechanically) past. In the last 4 months of ownership it has received a new 4.6 liter engine, new abs pump, new cv joints, as well as a couple of misc. items. With that done, I've actualy had a couple of weeks of problem free driving. My question is about the rest of the drive train. Does that ZF trans. have a good reputation? Could I replace with one out of a newer Disco. like I did the engine? What about the Warner-Borge transfer case. What is the life expectancy on it and should I rebuild the unit I have at that time? Thanks for any responses or just opinions.
