I dont know what year/car you have but my '93 Disco's remote works as follows
1: press key and release it flashes once+ all's well
2: press key and release then the led flashes 3 times(but successfully unlocks/locks the car) ,means the remote's batteries are low.
Heres something interesting if you get yours working and it has a short range as mine does, try putting the end in your mouth and then pressing the button!! It works better, I assume it uses your body as an aerial ?
