Snorkel Pro's and Con's Posted by Derek Gustafson on November 12, 1998 at 03:36:57:
I realize some of the advantages of having a raised air intake: cooler air, less dust, deeper fording capability, etc. but what about the disadvantages. I am looking to install a snorkel on a discovery and have a few questions. First of all, when driving through inclimate weather such as rain and snow, can this cause water to leak into the intake through the top of the snorkel, especially with the ARB safari snorkel because it faces forward? I realize that there is probably a filter at the top portion, but can't this become saturated during long drives at highway speeds through the rain? Also, will a snorkel even increase a Discoveries fording capabilities because it is electronicly fuel injected. My understanding is that snorkels do not increase the deep water capability on vehicles with EFI. Thank you for your time, your help is much appreciated
