Abbreviations

Posted by Neil on November 10, 1998 at 23:19:34:

Woww!! Did not mean to start a fight over this, just making a light hearted comment over MG's dislike of the word Landy.
On an international forum like this you are bound to get abbreviations for words that are not heard in other countries which therefore sound strange/odd to other people, you just have to live with it.
If we can't use Landy then lets not use carb, Disco, LR, gas, etc.
What about words where different ones are used to mean the same thing;
Hood/bonnet, wing/fender?, frame/chassis, gasoline/petrol, layshaft/countershaftsilencer/muffler, exhaust manifold/header, circlip/snap ring anti roll bar/sway bar?, bulkhead/firewall etc. etc.

AND then there is different spellings of the same words tyre/tire vice/vise and probably a lot more
