1995 lwb transmission

Posted by dave on December 27, 2003 at 17:45:05:

Howdy, I suddenly experienced a complete "slipping" in my transmission. I checked the auto-fluid level first and found that it was very dark and seemed to be very "overfilled". I have owned my 95 lwb county 4.2 for going on 4 years. I have neglected changing the transmission fluid but have changed the oil every 5000 km.
The slipping problem arose very quickly, it was not a gradual thing. My vehicle has been excellent other than my two rear power windows suddenly not working.
I immediately changed the transmission fluid and of course made sure it was at the correct level. Now the vehicle goes into gear fine, drive or reverse, but after a few minutes it starts slipping again and just revs?!?!
I don't have a shop manual, I don't even know how to access the gearbox which apparently takes 9 litres according to the owners manual. Can anyone help? Just basic info to send me down the right path or let me know what to look for / expect.
Much appreciated.

Dave
