Re: 89 RR hard start

Posted by Geoff Wiswell on November 09, 1998 at 05:14:51:

Recently I have had some difficulty starting the vehicle. I have notices a slight hint of petrol in the air, but
can't track down where it is coming from. It seems that the fuel pump is not pressurizing when I turn on
the ignition switch, the buzz one hears before starting the car emanating from the fuel tank area.

Once the car does start it starts up again anytime, but when the car is cold or overnight the problem comes
back again.

In my last episode I took the distributor cap off to check for moisture, dry
checked the HT leads fine
checked fuel pump fuse, fine
disconnected and reconnected air potentiometer plug
tapped the idle sensor

Got back in the car turned the key and it started.

Question could the pressure switch be on the fritz and be the culprit?

Any help would be appreciated.
