Help on a weird hesitation...

Posted by greenD90SW on November 21, 2003 at 02:50:15:

First, sorry for the length. There have been a lot of posts on hesitation/stalling, I know I think I have read them all, but none mirror what my truck is doing. This is probably not a big deal, but it is a bit worrisome. The hesitation occurs when the truck is at idle, in neutral or clutch engaged, and I blip the throttle quickly. I can hear a whoosh sound from under the hood and rarely there will be a backfire in the plenum. No check engine light or codes. I spoke with a LR tech I know at my local DLR, if 130 mi is local, and he suggested a vacuum leak. So I replaced all the vacuum lines, since most were well worn and appeared to be OE, didn't help. I haven't checked for leaks around the intake manifold or the operation of the vacuum unit, since I wasn't sure the proper procedures. Replaced cap, rotor, wires, and plugs a year ago. I cleaned the IACV and intake with throttle body cleaner recently, then reset base idle. Overall the truck runs great at all speeds, but I am concerned this hesitation may be a prelude to something worse. Paranoia I hope. Thanx for any help or advice.

BTW: MG/WCB, I changed to 5/50 syntec and the engine runs smoother and quieter. Also I tried your syntec magic mix and the tranny is definitely smoother. Thanx again.
