Disco problem

Posted by Helmut on October 21, 2003 at 22:20:52:

I have a '96 discovery TDi(August manufacture), which thanks to some dodgey fuel suffered a backfire which stripped the timing belt and bent all the pushrods, fortunately this was the only apparent damage. The problem is that after the pushrods and timing belt were replaced, there is a definate lack of power (it wouldn't pull the skin off a rice custard) and it there are large volumes of light grey smoke.
I am guessing the problem is a fuel pump timing issue and i'm hoping someone would be able to help shed some more light on to it for me.
that is is there a specific process for recalibrating the fuel pump?
