I just replaced the rear Window ECU on my 96 Disco. The front were working.

I am told the ECU is the typical problem.

The ECU is right behind the glove box (at least on my car)...it is a bit of a hassle to remove the glove box and kick panels. At first I couldn't find the ECU as I was thinking it is in the lower area (by passengers feet) but it was up and behind the glovebox in a very tight spot.

The key issue is that it is virtually impossible to remove the window ECU case (it has three places where it is secured via 7 mm nuts). The two front nuts can be accessed but the front (firewall side) is impossible to get to without a MAJOR disassembly job...the solution I used was after removing the two wiring harnesses was to gently pry off the ECU end cover and pull out the circuit board, then slide in the new unit. Thus my setup uses the old ECU housing but new electrical guts....

I'm happy to say that replacing the window ECU corrected my problem, both rear windows work. Only problem was about 45 minutes or so of work and $124 for the part.

Hope this helps
