The Disco should have slightly better articulation. The GC has a limited slip rear which helps. The Disco's diffs are open. The GCs unibody will crack following long term off roading. Low range gearing is better in the Disco. I have a '91 and when stock it only got stuck when everyone else did except those with diff locks. For what I do limited slips do not help. A big help off road is to throw away the sway bars, especially the rear. LR didn't start using them until '94. They don't really do much usefull. The next best thing is a rear diff lock. The manual actuating types are the way to go. The ride on dirt roads should be carpet smooth. I'm not sure why you have found it rough. BTW, for Dave's info, all NA Discos use the V8.
