Thanks guys for the suggestions. My marine diesel guru suggested belt dressing although he thought it was no longer available. He also suggested toothed belts which he reckons are less liable to slip.
I'll try the dressing first (if I can find it , I can never find anyone in Halfords who actually knows anything about cars let alone Landies. I once broke down outside a Halfords workshop (about 2 metres distant) and the mechanics wouldn't lend a hand because it was raining and anyway L/R's are from another planet & I only needed an earth lead!)I'll let you know what works and brownie points to the winner.tia lloyd.
