1998 Discovery LSE Posted by MikeD on November 04, 1998 at 14:41:26: I purchased a Discovery on October 1, 1998. I had been an owner of numerous 4x4s with the most recent models being a 1993 Grand Cherokee Limited and a 1995 Grand Cherokee Limited. I was disappointed with the 1999 Grand Cherokee in the fact it was so similar to my previous model. My Jeeps had all the bells and whistles including Up Country Suspension. I went looking for a 4x4 which would provide the same level of off-road capability. I was assured it was "much more" capable from my dealer and considering Land Rovers advertisements claiming it's "go anywhere capabilities" I purchased the 1998 Discovery LSE. It was Saturday, two days after the purchase, that my Discovery first hit the dirt. I have had a total of 9 4x4s and in comparison the experience of the Discovery was nothing to write home about. I found the suspension to be quite harsh on dirt roads. Just over 5 weeks old and rattles are now abundant. These quirks are not the reason for this posting, it is the fact that I have gotten stopped dead on dry rocky climbs where my Jeeps never spun a tire. Land Rover is calling this "go anywhere capable". That in itself is quite laughable. I have contacted my dealer expressing my displeasure with its off-road ability. Has anyone else had similar experiences? I have quickly lost all faith in this vehicle. I have vast experience in off-road driving and have logged approx. 1,000,000 miles in combined on and off-road driving. Is this really happening? Does this "go anywhere" vehicle really go anywhere or are all the advertisements just hype. MikeD
