The stories they tell about defects are beyond belief. One, a lawyer, successfully sued Rover under the lemon laws of his state and obtained a refund. The stories were rather uniform and included warped rear doors, engines out at between 10,000-15,000 miles, unresolvable brake problems, etc. I also have four friends that have owned Range Rovers. One has had an excellent experience - after Land Rover replaced his first Range Rover due to enormous quality defects. Two reported the need for new engines at about 33,000 miles as well as numerous other problems. One's Range Rover has over 100,000 miles on it and, accordingly, spends considerable time in the shop. This, of course, is not a sufficient sampling to base a valid critique of the marquee's current products. Nonetheless, one hears these stories about new Land Rover products everywhere - read previous threads - owners and parts dealers alike. I suspect the difference in opinion here is one of perspective. Devotees probably expect a considerable amount of maintenance. Virtually any car will be troublefree if maintained extensively - i.e., greased and lubed every 3,000 miles, etc.. I can tell you, however, that the average joe spending 30-60K on a luxyry SUV does not anticipate having to perform extensive maintenance on said SUV. I, myself, drive MGs. I expect a high degree of maintenance and mechanical breakdowns. My daily driver, however, is a new BMW.....
