Thanks for all the help. With distrib out, holding drive gear, and turning rotor, I get about 80-90 degr of movement with a grinding sound and no spring-back. Doesn't seem too healthy to me! In pieces I found the movement is between the shaft and the bottom plate that the weights sit on. That is supposed to be solid, isn't it? Can anyone provide a detailed exploded view fo the Series II-III Lucas distributor? A friend is sending me a spare shaft, hope that solves my problem w/o resorting to more expensive solutions.
