Ailing Series Engine Posted by Jon Cohen on October 30, 1998 at 11:39:59:
After problems with a cranky Zenith on my SIII 2.25 gas, I rebuilt the nasty Rochester it came with. All was fine for a week, until today. Halfway to work, the vehicle started to buck lightly and loose power, finally dying. The beast refused to restart, popping and farting loudly and sending bursts of flame up through the carb. With a quick check the points and rotor seemed OK, but the dist. shaft would turn about one fifth of a revolution when the rotor was turned by hand. I cranked the engine again after refitting the cap and it started and ran for about 20 sec. before dying again. I hitched a ride to school ( I'm a teacher) hopfully my Rover will be meeting me at home via flatbed. If I can't fix this prob. quickly and cheaply, my wife is going to make me sell my big, green, noisy toy. HELP!!! Any calls of wisdom at (610)933-7318
