Longevity of Series Components

Posted by Greg Chait on October 29, 1998 at 11:25:16:

Well, here's another question. I have located a 67 Series IIB that has been sitting for five years. Body is in great shape. Chassis has no corrosion (yes, I've spent an hour under it poking with a screwdriver; no mud, just the original black paint). The hydraulics and rubber, of course, are shot.

I have extensive experience with MGs. An MG that has been sitting will need new hydraulics and, most likely, an engine rebuild and a clutch and electrical sorting. MG transmissions and differentials, however, are virtually indestructible and one usually does not rebuild them in a restoration absent an identified problem.

My questions are as follows. On a Series Landrover, which parts die from the lack of use and which ones do not? With respect to a used Series Landrover, which parts are virtually indestructible and usually not rebuilt absent an identified problem, and which ones do you expect to rebuild as a matter of course>

P.S. The price of the car is a thousand.
