Although the message is rather old, I have just found this web site and, browsing through all the messages I came across your request which is quite close to my heart. I am looking after a SerIII lightweight (modified with SDI V8) and also rebuilding another lightweight.

I recently spotted what may be the ultimate fix for the floppy door tops on a neighbours lightweight. He has fitted two small overcentre latches between the door bottom and the removable top half; one towards the front and the other towards the rear. Providing there is enough meat in the door parts, the tension of closing the latch pulls the door top inwards slightly but more to the point, stops it bending outwards with the surrounding rubber.

Hopefully this may be of some use to other lightweight owners suffering from wet and cold shoulders.
