The problem is most likely leaking injectors or a fuel pressure regulator diaphram.

The key to this is your statement "I have to push the accelerator to the floor" - or words to that effect.

Overnight or after a long period of time, the leaking fuel will evapourate and the car starts fine. On the shorter periods it is basically "flooded" so pushing the accelerator to the floor does two things:

1) Allows max air flow to counteract the additional fuel.

2) Tells the computer its in clear flood mode, so it limits the injection duration.

Install a fuel pressure gauge. Start the engine then switch off - you should see the gauge drop reasonably quickly.
