Disco misfire

Posted by Quinn on May 02, 2003 at 09:43:04:

I've recently been chasing a misfire problem with my '96 Disco 4.0 5 spd: The OBD system flashes the codes for "random multiple cylinder misfire" and "#7 misfire". The engine does indeed misfire/shudder but not all the time and only at idle or light load cruise. In fact, if you floor the throttle while it is missing, it will quickly "clear out" and accelerate fine right to redline. Otherwise it will continue misfiring. Also, i think it only does this when the engine is warm.
It has been doing this since I bought the car last December. At the time of purchase, the only thing wrong was that it had a coolant thermostat stuck open for at least the previous 6 months. I replaced this the first afternoon and engine temps are now what you would expect. I also have replace all the spark plugs, and ignition wires as well as done a general check for loose grounds etc. In additon I have installed a fuel pressure gauge onto the rail and pressures seem to be fine.
Any ideas/info would be greatly apprectiated!!

thanks,
-Quinn
