To answer your question, there are two parts:

1. The warning lights coming on have nothing to do with the wear on the pads or discs - this is an ABS sensor fault which can only be cleared by using the Land Rover diagnostic computer, called the Testbook. Only authorised Land Rover dealers seem to have these specialised equipment.

2. The discs and pads on the Land Rover are very soft indeed, creating lots of brake dust but they do stop fairly well. And yes, they tend to wear out fairly quickly, which is why I've moved to aftermarket discs and pads - the EBC ones.
