fuel leaking from top of injectors--please help!

Posted by Larry on March 23, 2003 at 19:15:49:

Hi,
I've got a '90 RR. Fuel was heavily leaking from the junction of the fuel injectors and fuel rail. I ordered new O rings (almost $4 a piece! from Rovers north), and installed them. Then I installed the rail and injectors and screwed the rail to the intake manifold. Fuel still seeped out of three injectors at the same place (where the top of the injector goes into the rail). It's leaking a lot less, but of course any leaking is unacceptable. I removed the fuel rail again, checked the three offending injectors. They seemed fine, the clips are properly in place, the injectors as straight as possible. I put a little more silicon lube on the offending O rings, reinstalled everything and yet fuel still seeps out.
My injectors only have the one O ring at the top. THere is not a removable supporting disc as described in the manual (as near as I can tell)
I'm quite lost and frustrated. I imagine the next step is to get a new fuel rail and O rings (more $$$) and try that. Anyone else had this problem? Any insight would be very appreciated. Perhaps there's some piting in the fuel-rail buckets and a new one would fix it? Maybe the fuel pressure has mysteriously risen (doubt it, but the RR is the most complicated car I've ever seen)? Of course I'd like to fix it as cheaply as possible. Again, thanks for any advice
Larry
