I used to have a SIII lightweight that had had the thick rubberised stuff put on by the military. It looked like the chassis was perfect, but not so. When the stuff was applied, it didn't get on to the top of the chassis rails. This allowed damp/corrosion to work behind the coating unseen. Not a good thing! Best solution, as previously suggested, is the thick bitumous underseal applied in 2 or 3 thick coats. I put it on top of the Aga (when the wifes out) to warm it up which makes it much easier to apply.
