You would be more likely to break a diff or axle than the gearbox. The transfer case if very strong. The real problem is that the Holden does not like to rev as much as the original 2.25 Land Rover engine and you really need taller gearing . You could go for Overdrive, but these are not much good as they seem to wear quickly. An alternative is either some Range Rover diffs or a high speed transfer case. A much more expensive possiblity is a Nissan 5 speed gearbox from Marks Adaptors but this is probably worth more than the vehicle!! I would go for a rebuilt (or good second hand)gearbox with a high speed transfer case. You could use a Series III gearbox, but these are not as strong and you would not get the satisfaction of driving the "crash box" well!!! What is wrong with your box? They are easy to work on and you could probably rebuild it your self if you have any mechanical ability (and you must if you own a Land Rover;-) Email me if I can help further - there are lots of sources of second hand boxes.
