Did you use vegetable based brake fluid - ie Castrol type? It has been my experience that hydraulic cylinders in use don't leak but ones left sitting often do when first used. The rubber sticks to the inside of the cylinder. The solution is to renew all the seals and use some brake grease to keep everything moist. Michael
