It goes better, pulls better at lower revs and is more suitable for excursions off the tar. I believe that a 2.5 litre V6 (auto) is in the wings but how far off I don't know. Me, I'd go for the diesel, but I live in the country and drive long distances. A diesel would not like going to the shops. The 3 door and 5 door are built on the same wheelbase - ie the room in the back is virtually the same. The wheelbase is about 100 inches (ie the same as a Range Rover Classic and a Discovery, so the room should not be a problem. Range Rovers and Discoveries are not really built of aluminium. Yes, they have an aluminium skin on the outside, but all the internal structure is steel (and there is lots of it). I don't think the move to steel is a problem for a vehicle of this class provided it is painted correctly and not designed like an early Morris Minor where all the lower box sections rusted out from trapping water. I think they have learn't a few things since then.
