1994 Discovery Stalling and/or Running Rough Intermittently

The scenario to my Disco's problem is as follows: While driving (usually while accelerating) my engine just cuts out and sputters(while pumping the gas) for about 2-10 seconds then runs perfectly. If I stop the engine it usually stalls, however if I pump the gas pedal a few times it recovers and runs perfectly. This seems to happen after 2 different scenarios :
1. After idling in traffic for a couple of minutes.
2. When accelerating in any condition (usually right after slowing or coming down one hill and going up another). The one thing that is most troublesome is that I have no idea when this is going to happen again. There really is no true pattern to when this happens. It could be every day for a week and then not happen for 2 or 3 days.
I fear what the genius's at dealership are going to want to charge me to fix this. I am about 1500 miles out of the warranty.
Please help! Any ideas or suggestions that help me fix this would be compensatable.!!!!!!!
