I also have an ex-military V8. As well as running hot do you have oil leaks and/or lack of power? These engines are notorious for leaking head gaskets, compression leaks into the valley between the cylinder banks- this pressure forces oil out of every seal and gasket. The problem is a
design fault, after 1986 they stopped fitting the outside 4 cylinder head bolts as they made the head lift on the inside. I replaced my head gaskets and the transformation was amazing; smoother, more power, runs 20 degrees cooler and no oil leaks.
The only mods from standard I can detect are low compression and an unusual spec for the Lucas LMB distributor.Somebody more knowledgeable may know better.
