TDi 200 - Top Cover Smoke

Posted by EF on October 14, 1998 at 23:45:49:

I have just installed a TDi 200 engine on my L/R 90, the engine had performed approx. 53,000 miles, it has now been idle for some time.
The engine is emmitting a lot of white smoke out of the top cover brether when started (both cold running and warm). The supplier told me to use the engine for a couple of days to see if the problem persists. He says it could be a stuck piston ring that might release with usage. Is this possible ? The engine runs perfectly both when cold or warm, starting in the morning is perfect and performance is good. What else could it be ? The supplier offered to either fix the problem for me or give me a replacement, what option should I take ?

Has anyone heared of similar problems ?

Any help is appreciated

Thanks in advance

EF
